New Free Press Release Service | Small Business

Posted in E-Commerce, In The Press by wayne.porter on June 3rd, 2008

Business folk can now submit their press releases to Small Business Trends at no charge. If approved, they will be published in our new “Small Business News” section.

From the site:

Question: Why are you publishing news releases?

Answer: There’s a lot of important news out there — much more than we (Assistant Editor Deborah Brown and I) can possibly cover. We’d love to provide a lot more news and information — and we know you’d love to read more news, too. So we thought we’d let you submit your press releases, subject to being reviewed by us.

Question: Will you publish everything submitted?

Answer: We will publish only news that is of interest to small businesses, startups and entrepreneurs. Please do not submit press releases that are off-topic or unrelated to small businesses, startups or entrepreneurs.

All submissions will be manually reviewed by a human being. We will do our best to review them within 48 hours. We reserve the right to choose which news releases to publish. Also, due to time commitments we cannot commit to notify you whether your release has been accepted or not. Please check back at the Small Business News section of the site after 48 hours.

The cost is free and they do not accept guest articles.

Japanese Twittering- Security and Coining a Phrase…

Posted in In The Press, Mobile, Security, Social Networks by wayne.porter on May 9th, 2007

Apparently my blog entry at SPG on twitter security hazards took off. I coined a word for the potential of phishing attacks after the IP Spoofing incident- (I dubbed these potential attacks “Twishing” for lack of anything more creative) and it went full-blown in the Japanese technical press, but pretty much only in Japan. They get it.

See CnET Japanactually all over Japan. Strange- I am still a fan of twitter though. Just be careful.

RSA Day 1,2,3… I am Not Really Sure…Bong Su and Security Guns That Have to Kill You

Posted in Blogging, Civic Issues, In The Press, Instant Messenger, Security, Skype, VoIP Fanatics by wayne.porter on February 7th, 2007

Events are now moving in a blur, a real fast blur- sleep is a premium…practice runs (Thanks Ken of RSA), tweaking presentations, events to attend, events to crash (Thanks Jeff of MSFT), events I had to miss due to fatigue and deals to do and more people to meet. PG and were able to meet or spot some true security greats (not to mention the nice letter from Mr. Gates- grand.), we played spot the Fed, and I met one guy who can remember when the RSA event was like 5 or so people. I’d say more about that, but he is one of those guys who would like have to kill me and stuff- my CEO even warned me this was so. I won’t go there, but security people, especially the security guns of old, are always really and simply *fascinating*. Just when I think my life is all pear-shaped- their lives are like…golly whiz.

Now I am so dead tired at this point I haven’t the effort to even tackle a proper blog entry- so i have conceded that to PaperGhost of VitalSecurity fame who seems to be holding up better despite his trip to Madrid where he was accosted by a pirate (ask him). After three + straight weeks on the road I can’t even muster up the energy to FTP up a photo string with nifty quips…ok so you get one…PG and I preparing to go into Bong Su to talk with various security-like types and eat strange things and drink wine- it was a good turn out and chance to meet up with colleagues, journalists and co-workers. Somehow we ended up at the Microsoft bash a few hours later- interesting and we met more cool people, although I think PG was more fascinated by the comic things on the wall.

Watch for more coverage at SpywareGuide.com’s Greynets Blog- if Chris hasn’t passed out. Sooner or later I am sure the Zango film or pic where I have a (or what I felt was a ) calm- ok- animated cellphone chat on the show floor with the Zango rep who missed me twice, it will probably make the rounds sooner or later…but no one was harmed. (Can someone tell ME where the FTC issues certifications? I doubt it.)

Photo below. We dressed up on our own accord, but after the event I expect we’ll revert to tee-shirts with obtuse slogans and jeans.

PaperGhost and Wayne Porter at Bong Su in San Francisco

Oh yes… for those who asked me the last few days, the rumors about Facetime and Skype are confirmed true. Naturally I can not talk about unconfirmed stories…since it is no longer merely VoIP security speculation- there you go.

Books My Projects Have Appeared In…Another Work in Progress

Posted in In The Press, Reading - Literature by wayne.porter on June 10th, 2006

Perhaps one of the neastest things is finding your business or projects you have founded or worked on hitting a traditional book. While I have always dreamed of being an author it will probably never happen at least any time soon- although I love the concept of POD. I am just not patient enough at this stage in my life so I will have to be content with mentions inside of other people’s books and I am fortunate to know a lot of authors that swell my ranks of signed copies for my extensive (and ridiculous book collection.)

Many, many thanks to the authors, editors and researchers that have covered my projects and/or websites in their books.

In The Press…Work in Progress

Posted in E-Commerce, In The Press, Security by wayne.porter on June 10th, 2006

This is a project long overdue, and at this stage the list is terribly incomplete and fairly unorganized and out of chronological order…but I have to start somewhere. At some point I will trackback and get all the various entries organized, annoted, hyper-linked etc. If I feel really ambitious I might even cover some of the blogosphere. Then again it is that time factor. These entries cover the gambit from my work in security and e-commerce from small mentions to large circulation publications.
