Dell shipping Ubuntu- this is truly the technological war of my generation… You don’t have to be a genius to see where this all leads.

    Actually, I think it is hard to tell where this will lead.

    Personally, I think that Dell/Linux could make a small impact, only noticable to those watching IT. From here, it could grow steadily over many years.

    Dell/Linux could flop. Dell could also use linux to push lower spec machines that will never be able to run Vista, thereby augmenting their offerings instead of competing with their MS machine. Other companies could follow suit, or maybe they won’t.

    What is your prediction for where this is leading?

    I would likely have bought the computer I am typing this on from Dell if they had the Ubuntu offer then. I ended up buying it from groovix.com (which I am happy about). Dell is smart to make this move and others, as I blogged about in Dell customer focus innovation
