SLTWeets- Bleys Delivers Updated SL Twitter Client
I am slowly shaking off the flu…57 Miles, aka Nick Wilson had a couple of suggestions on the SLTweets beta Twitter HUD.
I do have 2 issues with SLTweets though:
Why can’t I hide the HUD? I dont need to see the damn thing as I only want to post, not read in SL. If anyone knows how, please let me know!
Reading is next to useless. The text escapes the HUD’s window and is pretty much illegible. As I prefer to read Tweets from a browser though this doesn’t bother me as much as #1 .
Fair and valid points (and great content on metaversed while I am on it). I talked to Bleys (via skype) and testing version 0.76 although 0.75 is up with those fixes Nick…so there are the two features requested. Bleys says he also has dispensers in beta too for folks wanting them on their island or land in order to spread the twitter and research tool. I think he plans to add advertising options to the side of the dispenser so there is an incentive to spread the word or words of peace- what have you. He is the aesthetics / builder. Then again he will probably go for aesthetics.
I have asked him to tweak a special “lunar rover” build though- designed for those who research information heavily- tagging, SLURLs, etc. So maybe that will be a secondary HUD- we will see. The concept is when you do /123 Note “Your Note Here” you can “automatically” sample environmental variables- whatever can be gathered, sort of like a “mars rover”. That way educators or researchers can focus on what they see- this is what my wife asks for anyway. Actually after looking at POD, I think it could be yoked together- so educators, or students could create their own class books. I know people hate paper these days, but I like books, and I like the ability to flip back through things and jot on them with a…pencil.
In addition: this has me excited too.
Log into SLTweets and view your Second Life Tweets and Research information on-line. Using Second Life’s Web Maps API you can view historical information and a visual map of where you have been, when, what you Tagged or made Notes on and other historical information about that location.
Your Notes and Tags can be made Public or Private. Share your information with other SLTweets users and view what others are saying about locations you are visiting, or wish to visit. I have been testing this too- (and it is using cacheing so not to burden SL)
At any rate I am going to use a separate twitter account for exploration- don’t want to bore all the “WoW people” on my primary Twitter account. Yes I am tempted to explore that game, but sheesh. So little time as it is…I’ll just outsource it and hope I catch a colleague on a server…who wants to kill kobolds for coppers anyway?
