SecondLife- Idiot Quote of The Week as Monty Haul D&Ders Invade

Posted in Lifestyle Evolution, Recreation, Second Life, Video Games by wayne.porter on October 26th, 2006

Perhaps this is why power leveling in WOW exists.

At TechCrunch this blog entry, by Michael Arrington, appeared regarding Crayola being the “first” Second Life company. I bolded the critical aspect of the “quote of the week” which comes from the 30 or so odd comments on the entry. But to clarify the Crayola aspect- SL is their “office”. OK. Big deal. Working in virtual worlds is as natural to me as a real world. Actually it is far preferable…if you can keep your people from turning into zebras, growing horns, wings and well…some companies function better with that kind of innovation.

Back to the quote of the week……

i went on second life; its rather boringand most people where just running around changing their apperance…i’m not realy going to waste my time and money doing this; expecially since i know they got hacked and all their customer data was compromised.

probably tha main point of contention in this game for me is: i don’t get to kill anyone…it lame in that i have to have clothes and the appearance sucks; and i wanted a chance to start a business/make money…and i couldn’t figure it out…and i’m not going to stay up at night making polygons…so maybe the audience is limited to people who use animation software…not me….i want a game where i can go kill something and steal gold, and then use that to start a business or something.

i was fun walking around though…but if you’ve played online games before, like Arena, etc…its kinda boring.

Analysis: Right. No chance to kill people and if you want a game- you really need a game where you can kill someone and steal their gold then parlay that into a normal business, this is much like the mafia. I find this quote a good indicator that Second Life is really not a game (since there really are no game goals beyond what you set) but a shared virtual experience.

I am also terribly glad that the Lemon aliased guy above will not be entering the grid with his Vorpal +4 blade of Orc Slaying to roll avatars in search of Lindex in order to jumpstart his evil empire. Coupled with the fact the Periodic table is no longer flat…the world is becoming a much better and kickass place.
