We Are Marshall- Appalachian Memories

Posted in Lifestyle Evolution by wayne.porter on June 25th, 2006

I was born in Huntington, WV. I attended Marshall University and while I was only a tot when the plane crash happened I, like so many others in the West Virginia hills, were forever shaped by that tragedy.

As some may know a movie is coming out this fall about the tragedy, the community response and the aftermath. (Many probably know that Marshall went on to become a football powerhouse.)

At any rate here is a song about it. I am not one for sappy music, but here it is. I can’t help feeling emotional about it.

Original song by Ryan Parker about the 1970 plane crash involving the Marshall University football team. The song focuses on the ascension of the program in the aftermath of the worst sports tragedy in U.S. history

*Note I did manage to dress up in my L.A. best and stumble on the set while they were shooting downtown. Who is going to turn me away dressed to the hilt sporting cell phone, shades and glaring at anyone who dared question why I was there? (Or so my wife claims). I hope to get some pictures up soon….
