Skype and Skylook for Meetings- Just Add Transcription!
Need to make cheap or free conference calls?
Audri Lanford turned me on to these services sometime ago:
FreeConference.com
FreeConferenceCall.com
But what if you are like me and work with developers and researchers around the world?
However if you use Skype, Skylook is a great add-on for the service. I covered it in a recent entry at Revenews.
“I have simply rejected all other IM applications, aside for security testing e.g. worms. I have a SkypeIn number, soon to get a Wi-Fi Skype headset, and I can easily manage the 100+ contacts I have. Plus with Skylook (Thanks Jeremy Hague for a great application.),
I can record calls (have to let them know first), e-mail them out, and have things auto-answered all integrated into Outlook. Jeremy also tells me it looks good for Skype 2.5 too. Oh and if I am away- it will pipe messages to my POP3. (A short aside Revenews Readers can get a 10% reduction on Skylook with this code REVENEWS, valid until July 15, 2006….)
Since I often have calls with researchers around the world, the service works great and Outlook integration is handy. It records the call in .mp3 and you can instantly e-mail it out to team members at the end to augment their notes. I am not sure about the http://www.37signals.com/ products, although I hear great things about it for collaboration from many trusted colleagues and I plan to try it. If it has integrated file hosting this could be a great way to archive past meetings not only for past reference but for new comers. Simply setup your Skype conference, record the meeting (with permission of course) and at the end you will have a great quality MP3 file for your project library.
Even better because users can download them into an iPod or any MP3 player device. Come to think of it this would be a great way for several companies to enhance their products or by working together.
1) Collaboration software via Basecamp
2) Skype to facilitate communications
3) SkyLook records the meetings and distributes mp3s via Outlook
4) Skylook could partner with a transcription service, which would convert mp3s to text and mail back.
