Dan Gray Rocks!
My good colleague, Dan Gray, of GeekBooks fame has done it again. The first time he pulled my ass out of the fire with some absolutely excellent technical documenation I needed done- and fast- it was worth every penny folks. This time it was a bit easier. (and now I regret not finding his VoIP chart- screw Vonage.
I needed a great graphical design book for one of my team members (as a motivational gift) and he sent me two. Both signed and one for my own collection. Dan probably knows I collect signed editions of any book as well as very rare books- my prized ones include, 1st edition When The Sleeper Wakes, 1st edition Lousia May Alcott- , and 1st Edition To Kill A Mocking Bird, as well as a later inscribed anniversary edition which is no easy task as the author is very elusive. I will never sell my signed books or treasured first editions. I do love books and I truly admire authors. One day- one day- I hope to aspire to one. Thnking POD again….anyway I digress.
Now I realize how foolish I am, my cousin Jamie, who runs Sagacious would have dug a text too. I should have begged for another signed book so I could give it to Jamie who is nearing his college graduation for computer modeling in NY…I think Jamie has been featured in quite a few Photoshop manuals along the way to boot.
Jamie’s flair for 3-D modeling and Flash started back when he was 15! He has real talent- I believe he even won 7-ups Banner and Flash award. I actually gifted a website to him on gaming that he promptly turned in a counter-culture drug thingie…but I have to give him credit- he was the only 15 year old I knew pulling down four to six thousand a month from web advertising. To think I guided him into that dark path. More of Jamie’s early work, and many my favs, here, here, here and here. Or this early pic that I have always loved- especially from one so young. All done with Lightwave I think- neat variant of rose with ripples here.
If you prefer Jamie’s “Charles Manson” look, as I call it,- check this Air Jesus piece for Sketchers which I am sure was a school project and never made prime time with the background of Jesus throwing out fountains of blood and Jamie wearing chains and a crown of thorns or something- hell I dunno. I haven’t seen James since last holiday (we were trading death metal I think…) but his mom informs me he has since dropped the Manson look. Hopefully he stopped reading the Crowley stuff too- Jamie if you read this- ceremonial magic from the Golden Dawn will rot your mind. Eitherway on my in-laws side of the family, not counting my wife, I have always connected the best with Jamie. He and I both understood each other very well and both of us were tech savvy. I do miss him being in NE Ohio.
Anyway back to Dan the Man and I don’t mean the guy with stumps who hung out with Forrest Gump- that’s Lt. Dan. The kick ass book from Dan: Creating Striking Graphics with Maya and Photoshop . You might not get it signed (since you need to be in a secret cult-like cabal) but it is well worth it if you want to merge the complexity of Maya with Photoshop. Dan has a whole bunch of other books too…check him at your favorite book store.
